SPECTRASCIENCE ELECTS NEW DIRECTOR, REPORTS ON LICENSING AGREEMENT, PATENT CLAIMS

 MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- SpectraScience, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPSC) today announced that Dr. Stephen M. Fry, president of Strategic Business Development, Inc., has been elected by the board to fill a vacancy on the company's board of directors.
 Fry, who holds a Ph.D. degree in quantum electronics from UCLA, will also serve as a consultant to the company and direct its research and development efforts. He is an expert on lasers, with particular expertise in the area of medical uses of lasers. He has published more than 40 papers, has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books and has made presentations at numerous international scientific meetings.
 Before founding Strategic Business Development in 1986, Fry had been general manager of the Medical Laser Center of American Hospital Supply Corporation and director, busines development, for the Medical Specialties Group of AHSC. He previously held research positions with Hughes Aircraft Company.
 The company also reported that it has negotiated an exclusive licensing agreement with Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 31 patents relative to the use of laser induced fluoresence for the diagnosis of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The agreement runs for the life of the patents. For therapeutic applications, the company has access to the technology covered by the patents on a non-exclusive basis.
 The company has also received notification from the United States Patent Office that all claims have been allowed regarding the company's patent application for the diagnostic guidewire system that is currently under development.
 SpectraScience designs, develops, and intends to market next year, laser-enhanced systems for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The diagnostic system, which uses laser-induced fluorescence to identify and characterize vascular disease, currently is the main focus of the company's development efforts. SpectraScience is based in Minnetonka, Minn.
