SPECTRAN ELECTS RICHARD M. DONOFRIO A DIRECTOR

 STURBRIDGE, Mass., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of SpecTran Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: SPTR), which develops, manufactures and markets glass optical fibers, today announced it has elected Richard M. Donofrio, senior vice president of Southern New England Telecommunications Corp., a director, increasing board membership to seven directors. He was elected a class III director, with a term expiring in 1994.
 Donofrio, 54, is responsible for human resources, training and development, information technologies, real estate and the new re- engineering department at SNET. During the past five years of a 32-year career with SNET, he has served in a variety of senior and group vice president positions and served as president of SNET Diversified Group, Inc.
 He is a member of the board of directors of the University of New Haven, the National Engineering Consortium and the Greater New Haven United Way. Donofrio holds a B.S. degree in business administration from Norwich University and attended the MBA program at the University of Hartford.
