SPAIN APPROVES CHANGES IN TELEPHONE TARIFFS

 MADRID, Spain, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Telefonica de Espana (NYSE: TEF) announced that the Spanish government, at its meeting held Friday, appro ?changes in the telephone tariffs resulting in a 2.7 percent average increase.
 The most outstanding points are:
 -- Basic Telephone Service
 The monthly subscriber changes on basic telephony have risen 5.7 percent though connection fees have not varied.
 The local (metropolitan) tariffs have risen 5.3 percent and trunk calls have undergone an average increase of 4 percent. This average has been achieved by increasing provincial calls by 4.5 percent and national calls, 3.8 percent.
 International tariffs have been cut by an average of 1.1 percent, as a result of the 2 percent cut on European Community tariffs. The remaining tariffs have not varied.
 -- Other Services
 Tariffs on mobile services have gone down an average of 12.6 percent.
 Within data transmission services, the average reduction on the tariffs for leased and digital circuits has been 10.8 percent and 17 percent, respectively. Regarding the Iberpac network, internal adjustments have been made, although the average rate remains unchanged.
