SP MLA's self- styled khap spreads terror.

TERRORISING the hapless is something which controversial SP legislator Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit excels in. The legislator from Uttar Pradesh's Debai constituency has now been accused of mounting pressure on a youth to leave the woman, with whom he eloped and got married last year.

Kamal Kumar, in his police complaint, alleged that Pandit has been sending his henchmen and intimidating him over the phone.

" The MLA says he will implicate me in criminal cases if I don't listen to him.

He has threatened me with dire consequences if I don't annul our marriage.

We had got married at an Arya Samaj temple on December 26 last year and, then, registered the marriage at a Ghaziabad court. My wife wants to stay with me. But her parents, who are close to Pandit, have taken her away," Kamal said, adding that he has sought police protection.

Sonu, the complainant's cousin, has also received similar threatening calls from Pandit.

Adding to the youth's woes is the seemingly delaying tactics of the district police towards taking action against the Samajwadi Party strongman. " We have received a complaint from the youth. He had got married with a girl some time back. I have ordered an inquiry and any action would be taken only after receiving a report," Senior Superintendent of Police ( SSP) Bulandshahar Umesh Kumar Singh said.

Pandit, however, is adamant to ' punish' Kamal for the love marriage. " I have nothing to do with this case. The family members of the girl had sought my help. I have come to know that the youth has a criminal bent of mind. He should be punished," the legislator said.

But it is not Kamal and his family alone who have been terrorised as the MLA tried to intimidate local newspersons when they approached him for his remarks.

Shockingly, the Samajwadi Party leaders stand firmly behind their legislator.

" Such kinds of love affairs are not much different from eveteasing.

And we all know that a minor case of eve- teasing was behind such an unprecedented riot in Muzaffarnagar a few months ago," party district unit president Himayat Ali said.

It was only last month that Pandit had thrashed a lekhpal in Debai. Earlier, he had locked an Urdu teacher in a room and thrashed him. In 2008, Pandit was arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a girl.
