SOUTHWESTERN BELL TELEPHONE OFFERS TEXAS BUSINESSES HIGH-SPEED DATA SERVICE WITH NEW 'SERVICE GUARANTEE' ST. LOUIS, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Businesses in Texas can now purchase from Southwestern Bell Telephone high-speed data service with a special benefit: A month's free service if the line is out of order for four hours or more (under certain terms and conditions). And here's the best part: Customers get this guarantee at no additional cost. The service is MagaLink(R) III. MegaLink III is Southwestern Bell Telephone's dedicated, point-to- point digital data service. The private-line service lets customers transmit data at speeds of 1.544 megabits per second. MegaLink III is offered for intraLATA communications service. "Popular uses for MegaLink III include high-speed data, voice, and video," said Tom Zurheide, Southwestern Bell Telephone's district marketing manager for customer data services. "Banks, for example, use MagaLink III to send data between branches. Hospitals use the service for sending information and images between locations." The allowance for interruptions works like this: if MegaLink III service fails due to a problem with Southwestern Bell Telephone's network and the service is not restored to the customer within four hours after the outage is reported, the customer will be credited for the full month of service on the following month's bill on a per circuit, per occurrence basis. "It's the first time we have offered a 'one month's free' service guarantee with any tariffed offering," Zurheide said. Other services offer "pro-rated" rebate plans where credit is given based upon the length of the service outage. The reason for the new provision is simple: Southwestern Bell Telephone wants to satisfy its customers. "In talking to our customers, we've learned that reliable communications service is a top priority at their companies," Zurheide said. "As the voice and data communications needs of our customers continue to grow, we want to reinforce our commitment to being the provider of choice for high-quality, reliable data communications services. This service provision is just part of our total dedication to quality." Businesses which MegaLink III can help are those where significant data communications are required for company operations. These include financial and insurance, petroleum and chemical, telemarketing, and data processing companies. "Large businesses in Texas are key targets for MegaLink III," Zurheide explained. "And, with Texas being our largest communications market, we wanted to first introduce this rebate plan there. We are evaluating the possibility of expanding MegaLink III with the service provision to customers in the four other states we serve as well."
