SOUTHWEST AIRLINES NAMES NEW DETROIT AREA MARKETING MANAGER

DETROIT, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines announced that Kevin Krone is the new area marketing manager for the airline's Detroit sales and marketing office.
A University of Illinois graduate, Krone earned a master's degree in business administration in 1992, and a bachelor of science degree in 1990. Krone showcased his knowledge of the airline industry during a two-month student internship in Southwest's Dallas headquarters in 1991.
"I'm confident that Kevin will keep Southwest top of mind with our Detroit customers. He's committed to giving the Detroit community the Positively Outrageous Customer Service that Southwest is famous for," said Dave Ridley, director of marketing and sales. "Kevin's outgoing personality is right in step with the rest of our employee team."
As a Southwest Airlines Area Marketing Manager, Krone is responsible for local market knowledge, corporate sales, internal relations, media relations, travel agent relations, and promotions.
Krone will continue to build Southwest's relationship with its Detroit customers by offering the carrier's everyday low fares, frequent flights, and exceptional customer service. Krone also looks forward to being a member of local community groups.
"My greatest challenge is to continuously get the word out that Southwest offers a great value to the business and leisure traveler alike," said Krone. "I'm also eager to create marketing opportunities that complement the company's expansion in the Midwest."
Krone's interest in the airline industry grows from a love of aviation. A private pilot since he was 18 years old, Krone flies single-engine aircraft. While not in the air, Krone enjoys water sports and basketball.
Southwest Airlines serves Detroit City Airport with 11 daily nonstop flights, and serves Detroit Metropolitan Airport with six daily nonstop flights. It is the first and only major airline to capture the industry's "Triple Crown" for its 1992 performance, based on statistics published in Department of Transportation (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Reports. The "Triple Crown" consists of the best on-time performance, best baggage handling record, and fewest customer complaints of all major carriers. Southwest operates more than 1,300 flights a day with an all-jet fleet of 144 Boeing 737s.
