Los Angeles Area Bride and Groom Will Exchange Vows in a Sky High
Ceremony Friday, Nov. 1, on Southwest Flight 419
 From LAX to Las Vegas
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- To usher in its new six-times daily service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Las Vegas, Southwest Airlines is treating a Southland couple to the wedding trip of their lives, with a mid-air marriage.
Alexandra Plummer, 26, of Torrance, Calif., and Timothy Duchene, 29, of Huntington Beach, Calif., will soar to new heights for their marriage in mid-flight on the LAX-Las Vegas Inaugural Flight (no. 419) departing LAX at noon, Friday, Nov. 1. Renowned Las Vegas minister Charolette Richards, "Wedding Queen of the World," dressed in whited flowing robes for the occasion will perform the marriage. Charolette has married stars including Frank Sinatra, Joan Collins, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore.
The bride and groom, dressed in formal wedding attire, will be accompanied by family and friends, when they gather at the Southwest LAX Terminal 1, Gate 5 at 11:15 a.m. for their noon marriage flight. The Southwest Gate 5 jetway will be festooned with white paper wedding bells, streamers and flowers to welcome the lucky couple.
Shortly after takeoff, the unique ceremony will begin with organ music played on a laptop organ while Charolette and organist Rhoda Jones sing a selection of songs including "On the Wings of Love."
Champagne will be served to customers on the plane by Southwest's man-and-wife flight attendant team, Danny and Usan Meeker. The special flight will be flown by Chris Cobb, pilot, and his wife, co- pilot Jan.
The airplane will be decorated with white streamers, paper wedding bells and flowers.
Alexandra, dressed in a full length white silk Cinderella wedding gown and handmade veil trimmed in white pearls and carrying a white floral bouquet (a gift of Southwest) will march down the airplane aisle to the sounds of the wedding march played on the laptop organ. She will be given away by her mother, Mrs. Jean Plummer. Timothy will await his bride at the front of the plane dressed in a tuxedo with tails and houndstooth checked pants. The best man will be Jim Bickel.
The ceremony will be performed and vows exchanged in front of many of the couple's family and friends, who are onboard as guest of Southwest. Charolette will pronounce Alexandra and Tim man and wife in Nevada air space and the happy couple will land in Las Vegas as newlyweds.
Upon arrival, the bride will throw her bouquet from a Southwest ticket counter and a wedding cake, provided by Southwest, will be formally cut and served to guests and Southwest customers.
In Las Vegas the couple will enjoy a honeymoon weekend at the Riviera hotel with limousine pick-up at the airport, the honeymoon suite, complimentary gift certificate for a return visit, the Superstar Showroom featuring George Burns and Pia Zadora, and a gourmet dinner for two at famous Kristopher's Steakhouse.
The bride and groom won the high flying marriage in the Southwest/KISS-FM "On the Wings of Love" contest. The couple was selected for the unusual story of how they met.
Tim explains that he was at a sushi bar in Redondo Beach when a couple he did not know commented that his creative personality was just like their roommate's. They suggested Tim meet their roommate, Alexandra. He did ... and they've been together ever since.
"We're a different sort of couple," explains Tim, "so we were actively looking for an alternative marriage ceremony."
"Since we met we've been on Cloud 9," added Alexandra, "so it's appropriate that we will be married high above the clouds."
"Our being chosen by Southwest is a good omen," says Tim. "Our friends will never meet another couple who will be married in the same way we will be."
Tim is a sales rep for Yellow Jacket Direct Mail Advertising in Irvine, Calif., and public relations consultant for Market to Market Communications specializing in the film industry.
Alexandra is a registered nurse and is OBGYN head nurse at the Bayshore Medical Group in Torrance, Calif.
They will make their home in Torrance.
