SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CHAIRMAN HERB KELLEHER IN CHICAGO
TODAY TO DISCUSS NEW AIR SERVICE FOR MIDWAY AIRPORT
WHO: Herb Kelleher, chairman of Southwest Airlines, renowned for his fun-loving, highly successful management style, has made Southwest Airlines one of the most profitable airlines in the world, and the major airline to report profits every year for the past 18 years.
WHAT: Will discuss new information about Southwest service from Midway Airport and plans for the future development of Midway Airport.
WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 19, 3 p.m.
WHERE: Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Drive, West Tower, Gold Coast Room, Lower Level
WHY: Last week, upon the shut-down of Midway Airlines, Southwest Airlines made an agreement with the city of Chicago to use eight additional gates at Midway Airport. Southwest Airlines has been providing service at Midway to Chicago-area passengers since 1985. Currently, the airline is operating 44 flights per day at Midway Airport. As stated at a press conference with Mayor Daley last week, Southwest has plans to increase dramatically the number of flights and amount of service from the newly leased gates at Midway over the next several months.
Kelleher has been an active negotiator of the agreement with the city, and is in Chicago today to talk in more detail about Southwest Airlines' future in this gateway.
