SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CAPTURES ANOTHER TRIPLE CROWN

DALLAS, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines has done it again. The Dallas-based airline has swept the top position in all three categories of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Report for April 1993 performance, thus capturing the "Triple Crown" an even dozen times.
A "Triple Crown" consists of the best ontime performance, fewest reports of mishandled baggage, and fewest Customer complaints of all carriers for which statistics are reported in all categories of the report. Southwest received "Triple Crown" honors seven times last year -- while no other major carrier has ever laid claim to the "Triple Crown" once.
Southwest had 90.5 percent of its more than 1,400 daily flights arrive on time in April; only 3.45 reports of mishandled baggage were received for every 1,000 Southwest Customers; and for every 100,000 Customers flying on Southwest in April, only .29 filed Customer complaints with the DOT.
"This latest 'Triple Crown' honor further reflects our employees' commitment to our more than 28 million Customers," said Colleen Barrett, executive vice president-Customers and corporate secretary of Southwest. "We are extremely pleased with our performance in this latest accounting of major airlines, and encouraged by our prospects for achieving our second annual 'Triple Crown' for the year."
Southwest is the first and only major airline to capture an annual "Triple Crown," which it earned for its 1992 performance. Southwest operates an all-jet fleet of 150 Boeing 737s.
