SOUTHWELL back next month; IN BRIEF.

SOUTHWELL is on schedule for a February reopening, with substantial repair work to the facilities and Fibresand following the floods all going to plan, the track reported.

However, the five-furlong chute will not be in operation for the Flat fixtures when it reopens, so scheduled races over five furlongs and a mile and three quarters will be reprogrammed.

Jon Pullin, racing director for Arc (north), said: "When we realised the five-furlong chute would be out of actiona little longer, we thought that rather than delay things any more it would be a relatively simple task to change some of the race distances. The chute should be back in action by the end of February."
