FILE WITH FERC FOR SYSTEM EXPANSION
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern Natural Gas Company and South Georgia Natural Gas Company filed today with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for approval to expand South Georgia's natural gas pipeline system to provide firm gas transportation service to a number of customers in Georgia and Florida.
The $26.8 million proposed expansion will increase South Georgia's system capacity by about 40 million cubic feet per day. The project includes 63 miles of 12- and 16-inch pipeline looping on the South Georgia system in Alabama and Georgia, the replacement of an existing compressor unit, a new compressor station near Adel, Ga., and replacement of certain existing measurement and regulating facilities.
The expansion, which is a joint venture of South Georgia and its parent company, Southern Natural Gas Company, is scheduled for completion in May 1994.
Ronald B. Gardner, Southern Natural executive vice president - business development, said, "This expansion will help meet the increasing demand for clean-burning natural gas in south Georgia and in the fast-growing north Florida market."
South Georgia operates a natural gas pipeline system serving parts of Georgia and northern Florida. Southern Natural Gas, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., is the major pipeline supplier of natural gas to the Southeast. Southern Natural Gas is a subsidiary of Sonat Inc. (NYSE: SNT), also headquartered in Birmingham.
