 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON MANAGER
NAMED MINISTER OF ENERGY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
ROSEMEAD, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Sebouh (Steve) Tashjian, an employee of Southern California Edison, has been named Armenia's first minister of energy and fuel. A resident of the Hollywood Hills, he is currently employed as manager of cost engineering at Edison's headquarters in Rosemead.
Tashjian has been granted a year's leave of absence to serve in his new post. He has traveled to the Commonwealth of Independent States (formerly the Soviet Union) frequently during the past two years to evaluate options for Commonwealth energy needs. The focus of his efforts has been the creation of short and long term energy plans for Armenia. He will pursue these goals as energy minister.
"This is a challenging opportunity to utilize the expertise I have developed in the fields of energy planning, construction and management during my 21 years' employment with Edison," Tashjian said.
During that time, Tashjian has worked in various capacities including project management for the construction of San Onofre nuclear Units 2 and 3, as chief cost engineer, and manager of cost engineering. In his present job, he is responsible for planning and managing capital budgets for generation, transmission and substation projects in excess of $200 million annually.
Tashjian earned a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California, and a master of business administration equivalent from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a registered professional engineer in the disciplines of nuclear and quality engineering.
His professional association memberships include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and American Nuclear Engineers Society. He is the author of several publications on engineering and management topics.
Tashjian's appointment as minister of energy was confirmed one week ago. He departs to assume the duties of his new job Feb. 9.
Southern California Edison is the second largest investor-owned electric utility in the United States. Headquartered in Rosemead, Edison employs 17,000 people who provide electrical service to 10 million people in central and Southern California.
