SOUTHEND 3 STOCKPORT 0 PAUL STURROCK was happy to see his Southend side get back to winning ways at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers had triumphed in just one of their previous home games.

"The most important thing was to get the victory," said Sturrock. "The last few matches we've had at Roots Hall have been a bit frustrating and disappointing, so to win against a good side is very pleasing.

"It was great to see Barry Corr score in his first start for quite some time."

Corr put the Shrimpers ahead in the 33rd minute, but could only breathe easy when two goals in the last four minutes from Marc Laird and Freddy Eastwood settled the issue.

Stockport manager Jim Gannon said: "I do feel 3-0 was slightly harsh on us because we played well."
