SOUTH CENTRAL BELL REPAIR CREWS FROM ALABAMA HEADING TO FLORIDA
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- About 56 South Central Bell employees from throughout Alabama will be heading south within the next 24 hours to help restore telephone service in South Florida.
These employees are primarily installation, repair, and construction technicians, along with supervisors and safety personnel. They've volunteered to work around the clock with local Southern Bell crews and more than 450 other employees from throughout the BellSouth region as families and businesses go about recovery.
BellSouth, South Central Bell and Southern Bell's parent company, has pulled technicians from throughout its nine-state area to assist with Hurricane Andrew recovery efforts to its telephone plant in Louisiana and Florida. Two weeks ago, 96 Alabama technicians went to Louisiana to aid with recovery efforts in the Houma area. Now that emergency aid has turned more toward recovery in South Florida, these additional technicians from Alabama are being sent to help with the process.
These technicians will be working to rebuild telephone plant in the south Dade county area. In addition, as displaced families and businesses move from their uninhabitable homes and offices, Southern Bell is installing new lines at unprecedented numbers and Alabama technicians are going in to help them serve these customers.
