SOUTH CAROLINA NATIONAL UNDERWRITES PUBLICATION OF HISTORICAL GUIDE

COLUMBIA, S.C., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- South Carolina National Bank has underwritten the publication of a historical guide entitled "Pathways to African-American Heritage and Contemporary Interests in South Carolina." The publication lists South Carolina sites and events important to African-American history and culture and includes photography and a state map highlighting landmarks, museums and parks as well as other historic attractions.
The Pepper Bird Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Hampton, Va., produced the South Carolina Pathways guide as part of a nationwide series that now covers 44 states. The foundation was established in 1987 to promote greater awareness of America' multi- cultural heritage. Wachovia Bank of North Carolina and Wachovia Bank of Georgia are also sponsoring Pathways guides in their home states. South Carolina National is a member company of Wachovia Corporation.
"South Carolina National is pleased to assist the Pepper Bird Foundation in making the general public more aware of the important contributions that African-Americans have made to our state's history," said Anthony L. Furr, chief executive officer of South Carolina National Bank. "The South Carolina publication includes points of interest from Charleston and Beaufort along the coast to the capital city of Columbia as well as the Upstate regions. We hope the guide will encourage travel to the historic sites featured and involvement in some of the listed events."
The Pathways guides are being distributed free through museums, cultural centers, churches, colleges and school systems throughout the state. The publication is also available at South Carolina National Bank's 160 branch offices throughout the state.
