SOUTH AFRICA : SA invites proposals to build first renewable energy facilities.

The South African Department of Energy has invited proposals from the investors for the construction of the first renewable energy power plants of the nation. According to the department, the bids could include energy produced from wind, solar, hydro, bio-gas, bio-mass or landfill gas.

The government is palnning to buy 1,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy by 2013 and 3,800MW by 2016. The department said that the bidders must pay US$15,000 for every megawatt of installed capacity they propose to build, upon registration.

It would conduct a mandatory briefing session for project developers, on 14 September.
