SONY TAKES MINIDISC TO COLLEGE SPRING BREAK; MD AND 'EXCELLENT AUTOSOUND TOUR' ROLL INTO DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- For the eighth consecutive year, Sony will be hitting the sun and surf at Daytona Beach's Spring Break. This year's event with America's college students will focus on the new MiniDisc digital music and recording format, which will be displayed as part of Sony's Excellent Autosound Tour exhibit.
The centerpiece of the tour is the MiniDisc Jaminator(TM), a 12-seat motion simulator equipped with a 650-watt Sony sound system. By simulating a tortuous ride over one of the world's roughest roads and through the skyscraper jungle of New York City, the "passengers" are treated to a breathtaking audio/visual experience demonstrating the versatility and sound of the world's first MiniDisc player for the car, the MDX-U1.
The Jaminator motion simulator also provides an excellent setting to show off the ten-second memory buffer in MiniDisc technology that helps prevent MD from skipping a beat even under some of the roughest circumstances.
Sony's exhibit area includes 2,000 square feet of exhibit tents with hands-on product displays, including the Sony MZ-1 portable MiniDisc recorder/player, in addition to a variety of "hot" Sony autosound products and customized demo cars. MiniDisc T-shirts and MD music sampler discs will be awarded to students participating in the booth festivities.
The tour and accompanying tents will also give spring-breakers the chance to experience a host of other Sony products in a stimulating and unusual atmosphere. The booth will feature Walkman(R) and Discman(R) personal stereos, CD and cassette boomboxes, and the Data Discman(TM) electronic book player. In addition, each day there will be a number of free product raffles, contests and games.
Sony will be giving away six CD players (one per day) in an on-site sweepstakes at the beach. A winner will be announced by Daytona Beach radio station WNFI DJ's at Finky's nightclub each evening.
In conjunction with Sony, WNFI will also be giving away 60 pairs (ten pairs a day) of Walt Disney World tickets at the beach, and 18 pairs (three pairs a day) of tickets at Finky's as part of its on-site activities.
Special appearnaces by "Inclined," a Sony Music Entertainment recording group, will occur daily at the Big Beach Party band stage from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. And Sony's TriStar Pictures will be showing previews for upcoming movies on a huge Sony Trinitron(R) television monitor next to the Jaminator motion simulator.
The Sony booth is located on the beach right behind the Marriott Hotel. It is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Thursday, March 18 through Tuesday, March 23.
