SONY SOFTWARE ESTABLISHES BRUSSELS OFFICE

NEW YORK, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Software announced today that it has established an office in Brussels, Belgium, to represent its interests in music, film, television, home video and electronic publishing to the European Community and its Member States. The new office will be called Sony Entertainment, European Community Affairs. Robert D. Summer, Corporate Executive Vice President, Sony Music Entertainment, is appointed President of the Brussels operation. Frances Seghers, formerly Vice President, Regulatory Affairs of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), has joined Sony Entertainment as Vice President, European Community affairs. Sony Entertainment is a division of Sony Software.
"Evolving EC regulations are coinciding with the global entertainment industry's transition to digital delivery systems," said Sony Software President Michael P. Schulhof. "By establishing a Brussels office staffed by two seasoned senior executives, Sony Software has made a significant commitment to being an active participant as the EC and its Member States formulate and enact intellectual property, product liability and other law and policies affecting multinational companies operating in the Single Market."
"In undertaking this important new initiative, I am impressed by the receptivity of the Commission to ideas and debate," said Summer. "The Sony Software units play an important role in creating entertainment and information for distribution in the Community. We have a long history of innovation and responsibility and see the need to be fully attentive to a changing environment."
"I am very pleased to be part of Sony Software's effort to work more closely with the EC," said Seghers. "Sony Software units are integral to many of the EC member countries, both through operating companies and joint ventures. We hope to be a valuable resource as the EC fashions the framework for the future of the entertainment industry."
The Brussels office will work closely with the Motion Picture Export Association of America (MPEAA) and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
