SONY SOFTWARE CORPORATION CONSIDERS EXPANSION IN THAILAND

NEW YORK, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Software Corporation (NYSE: SNE) is considering a significant expansion of its businesses in Thailand, following meetings the company conducted this week with government and business leaders in Bangkok.
"We are impressed by the growth and development of the Thailand economic business environment," said Michael P. Schulhof, president, Sony Software Corporation. "There are significant opportunities in Thailand to expand both our music and filmed entertainment operations.
"We deeply appreciated our audience with His Majesty The King and had a highly productive and mutually beneficial discussion with the Minister of Commerce on the issue of developing meaningful copyright protection for intellectual property," Mr. Schulhof continued. "As soon as copyright protection is in place and the potential for its enforcement has been demonstrated, Sony Software will be in a position to move forward with increased levels of investment in Thailand."
Through its Epic Thailand subsidiary, Sony Music Entertainment has been developing local repertoire and distributing music from world renowned artists for years. Sony Software is considering a significant expansion of that portion of its business, while also focusing on exporting Thai culture and music to other parts of the world. Filmed entertainment offers equally exciting prospects. "The opportunities for top flight motion picture and video entertainment in this dynamic market are dramatic," said Peter Guber, chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment. "The opportunity to market Columbia and TriStar product in Thailand, as well as to develop locally produced films, needs to be explored as part of our commitment to bring exciting entertainment to an ever-expanding global audience. In addition, the natural beauty and economics of Thailand make it an outstanding location for filming."
