SONY NAMES STRINGER CHAIRMAN AND CEO.
TOKYO-Sony Corp. has named Howard Stringer, current chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Corp. of America, corporate executive officer, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Sony Entertainment Business Group and chairman, group CEO and representative corporate officer of Sony Corp.
Stringer, the first non-Japanese executive to occupy the position, will manage Sony's global operations from headquarters in Tokyo and New York. He will also continue to head Sony's Entertainment Business Group and Sony Corp. of America. Stringer is succeeding Nobuyuki Idei, who will now serve as Sony's chief corporate adviser.
This shift comes as part of a larger management shuffle, which also includes the naming of Ryoji Chubachi, Sony's current corporate executive officer, executive deputy president and chief operating officer of Sony's MSNC and EMCS divisions, to representative corporate executive officer, president of Sony Corp. and CEO of the company's electronics business group. He is succeeding representative corporate executive officer, director and President Kunitake Ando, who will assume the role of adviser at Sony.
Katsumi Ihara, current CEO, executive deputy president and group chief financial officer of Sony Corp., will retain his posts while assuming leadership of Sony's home electronics network division, said a Sony official, speaking on background.
Ihara and Chubachi will report to Stringer.
Upon board approval, the changes will be made effective June 22.
