 SONY KIDS' MUSIC CREATES A NEW VOICE IN CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENT
 NEW YORK, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Music Entertainment has expanded its focus to a younger audience with today's official launch of two new children's labels -- Sony Kids' Music and Sony Kids' Video. During a press breakfast held this morning, the company officially debuted the first group of artists to join the labels and previewed the artists' music and videos.
 The Sony Kids' labels will aim to create a new voice and view in children's entertainment with a commitment to quality, education and fun. Initially, the six artists have joined what Sony Music views as the beginning of two expanding national labels. The artists will contribute both audio and/or video programming for both labels with an emphasis on programming that is fun for the whole family. In addition to releases from these and future artists, the Sony Kids' video label will offer high quality animated and concert programming.
 The launch of the Sony Kids' labels will be supported by a multi- faceted sales, marketing and promotional campaign. Aggressive marketing and public relations, artist concert tours and appearances and national advertising will be employed to bring the artists and the labels to the attention of consumers nationwide. The first titles will be available in stores on March 24, and over the next three months, audio and video titles from each Sony Kids' artist will be available. The audio and video titles will be available through a variety of sales channels, including national and independent music and video retailers, mass merchants, book stores and toy stores.
 "Today's parents are an educated, entertainment-savvy group who want to share with their children, and music is the common language that can make it happen," explained Linda Morgenstern, director of Children's Programming.
 The six artists on the Sony Kids' labels are an exciting and diverse group of performers, each with a built-in regional fan base. "We believe these artists are among the best performers entertaining today's children," added Morgenstern. "We are delighted that they are now part of the Sony Kids' family. Each of the artists shares our vision of providing quality entertainment and making learning fun."
 According to Al Reuben, senior vice president, Sony Music Video, "Sony Music Entertainment has been and continues to be a leader in quality programming. With the launch of the Sony Kids' labels, we are bringing the same tradition and commitment to a new audience, our children. We will utilize all of our extensive resources and expertise to become a leading source of entertainment and enrichment in the children's market."
 Based on Census Bureau figures, 4.2 million births were reported in 1990, the most since the baby-boomer year of 1961 recorded 4.3 million births. "We see growth in this market continuing," added Reuben, "and our entry into this market is very timely."
