SONY HIGHLIGHTS NEW OPTIONS IN MULTIMEDIA PERIPHERALS, COLOR DISPLAYS AND STORAGE DEVICES AT COMDEX '93

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony focuses on new products to enrich computing at home, on the road and in the workplace in its "Innovation at Work" exhibit at COMDEX '93. The exhibit brings together Sony's diverse product lines -- from peripherals for PC-to-PC videoconferencing and multimedia to award-winning Trinitron(R) color monitors and the industry's broadest range of removable storage products.
"The breadth of Sony's product lines means our customers can find the solutions for most of their business needs -- from hardware and software for portable multimedia devices to jukeboxes with large-scale storage capacities," said John Briesch, deputy president, Sony Sales and Marketing of America. "When developing new products, Sony draws on its history of innovation, the depth of its experience, and the strength of its research and development to provide end users, OEMs and VARs with practical benefits for a wide array of applications."
At this year's COMDEX, Sony joins the growing IC card marketplace with a new family of 10 PCMCIA flash memory and SRAM cards providing 256KB to 16MB storage for notebook/laptop/palmtop computers and other portable devices. Sony is also showcasing Metal Servo 3.5-inch Micro Floppy Diskettes with 21MB storage capacity; and a 5.25-inch 1.3GB half- height rewritable optical drive kit, complete with hardware, software and firmware.
For multimedia applications, Sony's PCS-V2 audio/video peripheral is making its COMDEX debut. The PCS-V2 fits on top of a desktop computer monitor, providing a flexible business tool for live video and audio communication from computer to computer. Other new multimedia products highlighted at the Sony exhibit include the new Vdeck(TM) 500 computer video drive; an entry-level MPC Level II-compatible CD-ROM drive; and demonstrations of the range of new, custom applications for Sony's portable Multimedia CD-ROM Player.
The Multiscan(R) 17se 17-inch Trinitron color monitor joins Sony's line of 14-inch, 17-inch and 20-inch computer displays. Controlled by a custom ASIC, this new monitor automatically adjusts image geometry and sharpness across a continuous range of scan frequencies, producing the consistently high quality images typically found only in single-scan video board/monitor systems.
A video wall presentation running continuously at the Sony booth is another highlight of the show. The presentation explores innovative Sony products and technologies that bring the capabilities of "hearing," "seeing," "remembering" and "touching" to computers.
