SONY FORMS SONY GROUP INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

TOKYO, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Corporation today announced, effective June 1, 1993, the formation of the Sony Group International Executive Committee to promote effective coordination among the company's global operations. The committee will be chaired by Norio Ohga, president and chief executive officer of Sony Corporation, and presided over by Ken Iwaki, executive deputy president and representative director of Sony Corporation. It will be composed of Sony Corporation top management and key executives responsible for Sony's overseas businesses.
Sony has been successful worldwide in furthering the localization of its electronics operations, with increases in overseas production, research and development and local procurement. As approximately 75 percent of Sony's business is conducted outside of Japan, decentralized management has been promoted by setting up regional headquarters in major zones. While Sony will continue its policy of localization, the role of the Sony Group International Executive Committee will be to maintain a cohesive approach to business philosophy and strategy among business units worldwide.
Sony also announced plans to form Sony International, a new company to support the activities of the Sony Group International Executive Committee. Sony International will be located in New York and will be led by Mr. Ohga and Mr. Iwaki.
"The formation of the Sony Group International Executive Committee is an

organizational expression of Sony's strategic commitment to global marketing and a recognition of the need to respond effectively to the challenges of our diverse global business environment," said Mr. Ohga. "We believe that with this committee in place, Sony will be even better positioned to continue into the next century as a market leader worldwide."
