SONY ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING CO. ESTABLISHES PAN-EUROPEAN OPERATIONS

Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. To Provide
Distribution For Sony Imagesoft And Non-Sony Titles
NEW YORK, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Electronic Publishing Co. today announced the formal organization of its pan-European operations with the establishment of Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. will provide European distribution for Sony Imagesoft and other third-party software offerings in Europe, as well as develop titles of its own.
The announcement corresponds with the recent acquisition of the Liverpool, England-based computer and video game software developer and publisher, Psygnosis Ltd. Jonathan Ellis and Ian Hetherington were named managing directors of the London-based Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. and will continue to serve as co-managing directors of Psygnosis.
"We are actively soliciting third-party developers to use Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. to be their entry into European distribution," said Ellis. "Each country will have an individual marketing and management team with country-specific goals and objectives. These teams will be managed locally but will report into Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd."
Both in the domestic and international markets, Sony Electronic Publishing Co. will remain the parent company for Psygnosis and Sony Imagesoft, the company's two publishing labels. Psygnosis will continue to market and distribute computer software under the Psygnosis brand, as well as develop software for Sony Imagesoft; Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. will develop its own titles. "Not every game that the U.S. operation produces will translate to Europe, and vice versa," said Hetherington. "Therefore, we are diligently working on our own in-house development."
Sony Electronic Publishing began introduction of a full line of video games and multimedia CD-ROM titles in Europe last year, including "Bram Stoker's Dracula," "Last Action Hero," "Cliffhanger," "Sewer Shark" and "Sensible Soccer."
"We are extremely pleased with the progress that the European operation has accomplished in the limited timeframe," said Olaf Olafsson, president, Sony Electronic Publishing Co. "Our goal is to build Sony Electronic Publishing Ltd. into the leader in the European marketplace, and we believe we are well on our way to achieving that objective."
Sony Electronic Publishing Co. creates, produces, and distributes interactive and multimedia software for international business, entertainment and educational markets. Headquartered in New York, the company has operating divisions throughout the United States and Europe. The company's publishing divisions include Sony Imagesoft and Psygnosis Inc.
Sony Electronic Publishing, together with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment, is a subsidiary of Sony Software Corp., a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America.
