SONY/TEKTRONIX INVESTS IN CAChe SCIENTIFIC

WILSONVILLE, Ore., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) announced today that Sony/Tektronix Corp., a joint venture between Sony and Tektronix, has acquired a 30 percent equity interest in CAChe Scientific, Inc., a subsidiary of Tektronix. Tektronix will continue to hold a majority interest in CAChe.
The agreement provides CAChe with capital that will help fund an increasing flow of new computer-aided chemistry products. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
"This agreement is advantageous for all involved," said John Karalis, vice president of corporate development for Tektronix. "For Tektronix, it strengthens our partnership with Sony/Tektronix. It also is consistent with our objective to focus our resources on our core businesses."
Sony/Tektronix' move reflects their confidence in CAChe's industry-leading hardware and software products and their commitment to develop the Japanese computer-aided chemistry market. "We've experienced great success selling CAChe products for chemical and material development in Japan, and we expect continued rapid growth. The products fit well into our system-selling strategy," said Koichi Momoi, president of Sony/Tektronix. Momoi went on to say that, "the computer-aided chemistry market in Asia, and Japan in particular, is very attractive at this early stage of its development."

"Sony/Tektronix is a very knowledgeable investor with valuable experience, a very solid reputation and a clear understanding of the long-term prospects for growth in computer-aided chemistry," said George Fabel, president of CAChe Scientific.
