 SONIC REPORTS INCREASE IN SECOND QUARTER EARNINGS
 OKLAHOMA CITY, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Sonic Corp.


(NASDAQ/NMS: SONC), parent company of the Oklahoma City-based Sonic Drive-In franchisor and operator, announced earnings today for its second fiscal quarter ended Feb. 29, 1992.
 The company reported that total revenues increased 18 percent to $13.5 million for the second fiscal quarter of 1992 from $11.4 million in the like period of fiscal 1991. Net income for the second fiscal quarter of 1992 was $1,145,600 or 15 cents per share as compared with net income of $341,400 or 7 cents per share for the comparable period in 1991.
 Total revenues increased 20.8 percent to $28.7 million for the first two fiscal quarters of 1992 compared with $23.7 million for the comparable period in fiscal 1991. Net income for the six months ended Feb. 29, 1992 was $2,673,400 or 34 cents per share as compared with net income of $978,400 or 19 cents per share for the comparable period in 1991.
 System-wide sales, the sales of all Sonic restaurants in the chain, increased 22.6 percent to $133 million for the second quarter ended Feb. 29, 1991 and 17.9 percent to $272 million for the six months ended Feb. 29, 1992 as compared with comparable periods in 1991. Company-owned comparable average sales per restaurant increased 13.3 percent for the fiscal quarter ended Feb. 29, 1992 and 9.4 percent for the six months ended Feb. 29, 1992 over the comparable periods in fiscal 1991. System-wide comparable average sales per restaurant increased 12.7 percent for the fiscal quarter ended Feb. 29, 1992 and 9.5 percent for the six months ended Feb. 29, 1992 over the comparable period in fiscal 1991. C. Stephen Lynn, president of the company, stated, "We are very pleased with the increase in comparable restaurant sales in view of the fact that much of our industry segment sales and traffic are flat."
 As of Feb. 29, 1992, the Sonic chain included 1,138 restaurants, 81 of which were owned by the company with the remainder being franchised. The restaurant chain reported a net increase in the number of restaurants in operation of three restaurants for the second fiscal quarter of 1992 and an increase of 26 restaurants for the first six months of fiscal 1992. The chain reported a net increase of 65 restaurants in operation over the last twelve months.
 The company's common stock is traded through the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol "SONC".
