 SONIC ACQUIRES NEW RESTAURANTS
OKLAHOMA CITY, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Sonic Restaurants Inc.,

the restaurant operating subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based Sonic Corp. (NASDAQ/NMS: SONC), announced today an agreement to acquire a group of franchised restaurants and the formation of a partnership with a second franchisee.
The company reported that it has entered into a management agreement with Moriah Enterprises Inc. of Miami. Under the agreement, Sonic Restaurants assumed the management of seven Sonic Drive-in restaurants in the Miami area. The company anticipates that it will consummate the acquisition of those drive-ins within the next 45 days pursuant to an acquisition agreement signed this week. With the consummation of the transaction, the company also will acquire the development rights to the surrounding territory.
Charlie Olcott, president of Moriah Enterprises, reported that, "Sonic's ability to continue the development we have begun makes this a good deal for each of us. Sonic has the capital to develop further the Miami area in a way we could not have developed, given the recent private capital raising environment."
Sonic also reported that it has entered into a partnership with Van Eberhard, an Arkansas-based Sonic franchisee. Eberhard owns and operates 10 Sonic drive-in restaurants in the Little Rock and northeastern Arkansas areas and owns the development rights to the Little Rock, Ark. and Lexington, Ky. areas. Through the partnership, Sonic Restaurants has acquired an interest in each of the drive-ins and will develop additional drive-ins with Eberhard in the Little Rock and Lexington areas.
Dennis Clark, president of Sonic Restaurants, said, "Each of these transactions should present significant growth opportunities, and the relationship with Mr. Eberhard in particular provides a strong relationship for future development."
The company did not disclose the details of either transaction.
Sonic Corp. is a public company, headquartered in Oklahoma City. Its common stock trades on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol SONC.
