SOMANETICS WINS LEADING EDGE TECHNOLOGIES AWARD

TROY, Mich., Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Somanetics Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: SMTS) announced today that it has won a Michigan's Leading Edge Technologies Award. The awards recognize Michigan companies demonstrating excellence and outstanding achievement in technology.
Somanetics' INVOS 3100 Cerebral Oximeter is the first product of its kind to monitor, noninvasively, directly and continuously, the oxygen saturation of the blood in portions of an adult's brain. Without sufficient oxygen, brain cells die within minutes, possibly resulting in paralysis, complex disabilities, irreversible brain damage or even death. The immediate information the INVOS 3100 Cerebral Oximeter provides is expected to help physicians take corrective action when needed in critical-care situations and has the potential to save lives or prevent brain injuries.
"Somanetics and Michigan technology are on the move!" said Gary Lewis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Somanetics Corporation upon hearing of the company's winning. "This is a timely achievement for our organization as we prepare to ship the Cerebral Oximeter throughout the world."
The fourth annual competition was co-sponsored by the Michigan Technology Council, the Detroit Free Press and the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co. It highlights the achievements of Michigan's technology-based companies to enhance the state's image as a technology center and help attract the resources needed to continue to develop this emerging industry and the business within it.
Somanetics Corporation is headquartered in Troy, and had 44 employees. The company develops, manufactures and globally markets computer-based medical diagnostic and monitoring equipment using In Vivo Optical Spectroscopy (INVOS(R)) technology.
The company's Common Shares and Class B Warrants are publicly traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbols SMTS and SMTSZ, respectively.
