SOMANETICS SIGNS NINE AGREEMENTS WITH INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL SPECIALTY DISTRIBUTORS

 TROY, Mich., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary D. Lewis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Somanetics Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: SMTS), announced today the signing of nine additional distribution agreements with international specialty dealers of anesthesiology and cardiovascular products to market the Somanetics INVOS(R) 3100 Cerebral Oximeter and the related disposable SomaSensor(R).
 In addition to Somanetics' domestic distribution network, which covers the entire U.S., the company has signed a total of 17 agreements with specialty dealers covering 28 international markets. Markets covered by the agreements include six nations in Europe, one in the Middle East and eight nations in Asia. The company expects to continue to expand the international specialty dealer network during 1993. Each specialty dealer has signed an exclusive, renewable agreement with Somanetics.
 In Europe, Medilab GmbH & Co., headquartered in Wurzburg, Germany, has five direct and three independent sales representatives and covers the entire nation of Germany for Somanetics.
 Two distribution partner companies have signed a distribution agreement to cover Spain for Somanetics. Arganon Electromedicina, located in Madrid, covers Madrid and the central and northern parts of Spain, while Barcelona and the country's southern region are served by Suministros Hospitalarios, S.A. of Barcelona.
 A/S Vingmed Danmark, located in Rosklide, Denmark, was established in 1974 and has 10 sales representatives covering the entire nation of Denmark. Carmeda, headquartered in Taby, Sweden, manages a distribution network of three Carmeda companies covering Sweden, Norway and Finland for Somanetics.
 In the Middle East, Reysas Medical Corporation, headquartered in Ankara, Turkey, was established in 1980 and serves all of Turkey.
 In Asia, company representation includes Med-Can Hong Kong Ltd., of Hong Kong, which covers Hong Kong and China, and Grand River Trading Company, Ltd., located in Taiwan and established in 1989, serving Taiwan.
 Sun Healthcare Technology Pte., Ltd., headquartered in Singapore, covers Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines for the company. Omron Medical Pvt, Ltd. of New Delhi, India, established in 1980, together with MedExcel, of Lockport, N.Y., have signed a distribution agreement to serve the growing medical market of India.
 Somanetics Corporation is headquartered in Troy and develops, manufactures and globally markets computer-based medical diagnostic and monitoring equipment using In Vivo Optical Spectroscopy (INVOS(R)) technology. Somanetics' INVOS 3100 Cerebral Oximeter is the first product of its kind to monitor, noninvasively, directly and continuously, the oxygen saturation of the blood in portions of an adult's brain. The device is intended for use in a hospital's operating room, recovery room, intensive care unit and emergency room.
 The company plans to commence commercial shipments of the device by the end of its second fiscal quarter ending May 31, 1993.
 The company's Common Shares and Class B Warrants are publicly traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbols SMTS and SMTSZ, respectively.
