SOCIETY OF AMERICAN BUSINESS EDITORS AND WRITERS HONORS HOBART ROWEN

 NEW YORK, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Hobart Rowen, economic columnist for the Washington Post, is the first recipient of the Professional Achievement Award of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for a distinguished career in business journalism.
 The society, whose membership includes more than 1,800 business journalists, presented the award to Rowen at its annual meeting in New York on April 27.
 Rowen was honored for a 55-year career in journalism that has included service as a Washington correspondent for the New York Journal of Commerce and Newsweek magazine, as assistant managing editor/finance of the Washington Post, and as a syndicated economic columnist since 1960.
 He was an early leader of the 30-year-old SABEW and twice served as its president.
 Among many other awards, he has received two Gerald R. Loeb awards and one John Hancock award for business journalism and a Sigma Delta Chi award for magazine reporting. He is the author or co-author of three books and is completing a fourth book, due to be published next year, covering his experiences as a reporter and columnist on the global economic scene.
