SMOKERS FIND SHELTER FROM CORPORATE SMOKING POLICIES

CLEVELAND, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Having mercy on poor souls who continue to smoke despite new non-smoking office policies, many office managers are adding smoking areas to their buildings in the form of glass enclosures. Until now, many smokers have found themselves out in the cold. Literally. Huddled together, smokers have had to endure the worst environments in order to continue their habit.
But Cleveland-based Patio Enclosures, Inc., the nation's largest manufacturer of sunrooms, reports a growing trend to add glass enclosures as smoking rooms at many organizations across the country.
During the 1991-1992 fiscal year, commercial sales at Patio Enclosures, Inc. nearly doubled. Patio Enclosures, Inc. has already built smoking shelters for many corporate and institutional facilities, including the Original Cookie Company Corporate Headquarters as well as Warren General Hospital in Ohio.
Glass enclosures shelter smokers from the harsh elements, and contain separate ventilation systems, as required by law. The Clean Air Act forbids smoke from designated areas to circulate through a building's main system. Moreover, glass enclosures are surprisingly economical because they can be built utilizing the support of an existing structure, such as a side doorway (probably the same doorway those smokers once huddled around!). Plus, a shelter can be customized to match the color and architecture of any building, avoiding the tacky "added-on" look.
In business since 1966, Patio Enclosures, Inc., a Dunn & Bradstreet AAA-1 rated company, offers both its residential and commercial customers a full line of customized sunrooms -- solariums, screen enclosures, three-season enclosures, year-round enclosures, and more. Patio Enclosures, Inc. also offers a full line of custom window treatments, blinds, and shading systems to complement their sunrooms beautifully.
