 SMALL BUSINESS WEEK ACTIVITIES PLANNED;
 CLIFTON BUSINESS CAPTURES TOP NEW JERSEY HONORS
 NEWARK, N.J., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Edward J. Quinn, president of Worldwide Educational Services, Inc. of Clifton, N.J. has been selected as the New Jersey Small Business Person of the Year, Michael P. Forbes, Region II administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today.
 As the New Jersey winner, Quinn has been invited to Washington, D.C., for special ceremonies saluting the nation's 20 million small businesses.
 In keeping with a 29 year tradition, the SBA will honor outstanding small business owners at local, state and national ceremonies May 10-16. Special events in Washington, D.C., will pay tribute to honorees from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico/U.S.V.I. and Guam. The theme for the week is "Small Business: Building America's Future."
 America's small firms employ six of every ten workers, provide the majority of new jobs, and produce more than 50 percent of the nation's goods and services.
 "Quinn is an outstanding example of one of New Jersey's finest small business persons," said Stanley H. Salt, SBA Newark district director. "I am proud to have Quinn's firm represent our state at the national events in Washington, D.C."
 Quinn, who was nominated by Broad National Bank, started Worldwide Educational Services Inc. ("WES") in 1971 in a rented room, giving classes in reading improvement. By 1990, the company provided diversified services in six states and the Virgin Islands, employed 90 persons, grossed close to $2.5 million in sales, trained close to 2,000 persons for employment, and improved the organizational skills of over 200 company executives.
 Today, WES owns its own corporate building and is a growing company with branches and affiliated schools. The firm's goal is to build an effective labor force for business and industry.
 Locally, Quinn will be honored at an awards ceremony on Monday, May 4, 1992 at the Sheraton Inn in Elizabeth, sponsored by the Metro Newark Chamber of Commerce.
 Region II encompasses New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
