SLY OLD DUTCH HAVE MADE MUGS OF ECB.

Byline: NEIL MOXELY

THERE has been a lot of handwringing following the defeat of the English cricket team by the Netherlands.

However, what shouldn't be overlooked is that part of the blame for this shambles must lie with the English Cricket Board.

The Netherlands have been allowed to compete within the ranks of our own professional game during the CB40 series. They will compete in the Royal London One-Day Cup, a 50-over version of the game this summer.

In essence, they have been given a huge helping hand to raise the standards of their own cricket by this country's governing body. It would be like the Premier League handing the Estonian national team a wildcard entry to play against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

So, it is all very well for Dutch cricket - but what, exactly, are we getting in return?

Embarrassed by the looks of it.
