SLP ANNOUNCES 1993 FIREHAWK

TOMS RIVER, N.J., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The new standard for measuring value in a sports car, Firehawk, will make its official debut on April 10 at the 1993 New York International Auto Show.
Based on the 1993 Pontiac Firebird Formula model, Firehawk is produced by Street Legal Performance Engineering (SLP), a leading automotive aftermarket company based in New Jersey.
With a M.S.R.P. of $24,244 and zero-to-60 mile-per-hour acceleration in 4.9 seconds, Firehawk clearly outperforms its much more costly competition, which includes Nissan 300ZX Turbo at $37,090 and Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo with a $33,107 sticker price.
"Initial reaction to Firehawk has been absolutely sensational. We initially planned for Pontiac dealers to sell 250 units of this one-of- a-kind performance car," said Ed Hamburger, president of SLP, whose firm also manufactures components for racing teams on the NASCAR and NHRA circuits.
"So far, based solely on Firehawk photographs shown to Pontiac dealers, approximately 100 cars have been ordered. Dealers clearly recognize the outstanding value inherent in this vehicle, which is fully warranted by SLP and Pontiac."
SLP begins the Firehawk conversion process by enhancing the 275-horsepower V8 engine, standard in the all-new Formula. Along with modifying the engine to create 300-horsepower, the firm adds 17-inch tires and wheels, as well as functional, twin hood scoops that contribute to Firehawk's blistering acceleration.
"To help differentiate our product, the twin hood scoops force-feed cold air into Firehawk's intake system. An added benefit is that visually, the scoops give Firehawk the most aggressive profile this side of Madonna," noted Hamburger.
Not only is its performance incredible, Firehawk delivers 25 miles- per-gallon in fuel economy on the highway and complies with emissions standards in all 50 states. Those remarkable achievements are not surprising since SLP is also a leading developer of alternative fuels hardware for vans, buses, trucks and passenger vehicles.
"I'm convinced Firehawk is the only car in the world offering 300 horsepower, anti-lock brakes and dual frontal air bags as standard equipment, plus 17-inch wheels and tires for less than $25,000," added Hamburger. "There is no other car produced anywhere, not Europe, not Japan, that remotely matches Firehawk's performance and safety levels at such a relatively modest cost."
For a bird's eye view of Firehawk, the new performance standard, stop by the Pontiac display at the New York International Auto Show. Firehawks can be ordered direct through Pontiac dealers or by contacting SLP.
