SLIDER RECIPES WIN AT WHITE CASTLE
COLUMBUS, Ohio, August 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The grand prize winner of a

national recipe contest sponsored by White Castle System, Inc. was Carol Cox of Cincinnati who created Broccoli "Castlerole." Judges selected the winning recipe on July 29, from ten finalist recipes at White Castle's corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Cox receives a sack of ten White Castle hamburgers each week for one year as her prize.
More than 260 White Castle afficionados across the country entered the contest conducted by White Castle to celebrate their sponsorship of National Hamburger Week May 10-16, 1992. Until July 1, contest deadline, recipes had arrived daily at White Castle for dishes such as casseroles, quiches, meatloaf, chili and more. The only contest requirement was that each recipe include ten White Castle hamburgers.
Nine runners-up were also named during the judging in White Castle's cafeteria. They are: N.R. Wisser (Prior Lake, Mich.) for "Breakfast Castle Casserole;" Marilyn Wagner (Columbus, Ohio) for "White Castle Hamburger and Zucchini Casserole;" Don Marsh (Indianapolis) for "Castle Nacho Grande;" Alaine Lee Cone (Indianapolis) for "Castle Casserole;" Joseph J. Garofalo (Bronx, N.Y.) for "Meatloaf Supreme;" Ellen Garvey (Bridgewater, N.J.) for "Castle Stuffed Peppers;" Sharon Walkup (Norcross, Ga.) for "White Castle Vidalia Dip;" Joyce Walukonis (Florissant, Mo.) for "Rolled Castle Steak;" and Arlene Gustafson (St. Anthony, Minn.) for "Swedish Castle Delight." Each runner up will receive a sack of ten White Castle hamburgers.
Winners were selected by a panel of six judges that included leading Columbus, Ohio, food critics and television personalities as well as Maryann Kelley, granddaughter of White Castle's founder, Billy Ingram.
All winning recipes, plus a recipe for "White Castle Slider Bread" created by local food critic Doral Chenoweth, will be published by White Castle in a pamphlet later this year. The company is also planning a 1993 edition cookbook that will include more of the recipes submitted for the contest. BROCCOLI CASTLEROLE
