SKYWEST AIRLINES ANNOUNCES STAFF REDUCTION

 SKYWEST AIRLINES ANNOUNCES STAFF REDUCTION
ST. GEORGE, Utah, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyWest Airlines

(NASDAQ: SKYW), a Delta Connection carrier based in St. George, has announced plans to cut its administrative staff by approximately 15 percent by the end of the year. The company will eliminate 25 positions, including officers and managers as well as staff support.
"This is a painful decision," said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Jerry Atkin. "But present competition in the airline industry and dwindling profit margins during recent years compels us to have the lowest costs possible." Atkin said the decision demonstrates the airline's commitment to reduce operating costs, noting several cost-saving measures previously implemented.
The announcement ironically follows record earnings for the quarter which ended Sept. 30. "Our performance was exceptional considering a relatively high unit cost. As we continue to streamline, our competitive position will improve to produce consistently better margins in the future," said Atkin.
Wherever possible, SkyWest has offered options to the affected employees. The airline employs another 1,400 people in 42 cities in the western United States.
