SKYTEL SUPPORTS WIRELESS CAPABILITY OF APPLE COMPUTER'S 'NEWTON' CHICAGO, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyTel Corp. said today at the Consumer Electronics Show that it will be supporting Apple Computer in offering a wireless communications capability for Apple's first consumer electronics product, "Newton." At Apple's news conference here today SkyTel President David W. Garrison said, "We are very pleased to be supporting Apple in its introduction of Newton and its wireless communications capability. Newton has a technologically advanced platform that will enrich the content of wireless messages in the future." Garrison added, "The SkyTel network adds tremendous value to many telecommunications and computer products such as cellular phones and laptops, palmtops and personal organizers. Newton, with its ability to receive graphics, charts and maps via a wireless network, has the potential to represent a true 'first' for mobile office and business travel situations." At the news conference, John Sculley, Apple's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Telecommunications will be as important to Newton as graphics are to Macintosh."
