NOTIFY! WIRELESS MESSAGING SOFTWARE TO WORK WITH SKYWORD AND SKYSTREAM
BOSTON, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyTel Corp., of Washington D.C. and Ex Machina, Inc. of New York announced on Aug. 4 a comprehensive joint marketing agreement for the integration of personal computer software and wireless messaging services. Under the terms of the agreement, Ex Machina's Notify!(TM) software for the Macintosh(TM), Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) and DOS operating systems will be enhanced to take full advantage of SkyTel's satellite-based wireless messaging network, and SkyTel will market Notify! directly to end-users through its nationwide sales organization.
SkyTel is the industry leader in wide area wireless messaging. Among the services it offers are SkyPager(R) numeric display paging, SkyWord(R) full-text alphanumeric messaging and SkyStream(TM) messaging and computer data updating. Utilizing SkyTel's Pan-North American system and Asia Pacific affiliates, these services are available to subscribers with regional, national, continental or international coverage.
Notify!, from Ex Machina, is an extension to traditional computer operating systems that enables mainstream business applications, such as scheduling, electronic mail and network monitoring programs, to deliver messages and data to remote users. Notify! transmits information from personal computers through local regional and nationwide paging systems to pocket-sized alphanumeric receivers and portable computing devices.
More than 50 software developers currently offer or are developing wireless messaging capability in their applications through Notify! These programs, including leading applications from Microsoft, Word Perfect, Symantec, CE Software and Claris Corporation will automatically be able to take advantage of the extensive SkyTel messaging network.
"We are delighted to enter into this agreement with Ex Machina," said David W. Garrison, president of SkyTel. Notify! and the SkyTel network will add tremendous value to hundreds of computer software programs that are in daily use. We can now provide our customers with complete wireless data solutions for all of their mobile communications needs."
According to David S. Rose, president of Ex Machina, "The agreement with SkyTel means the users if Notify!-friendly programs on Macintosh, Windows and DOS computers can now integrate their desktop applications with pagers, portable and palmtop computers from Syracuse to Singapore, and thousands of points in between. With Ex Machina's gateways for Microsoft Mail and CE Software's QuickMail, electronic messages sent from a local area network can appear instantly in a full-text display in a subscriber's pocket, whether across the street or across the country."
The agreement between the two companies encompasses a wide range of joint marketing activities, including end-user product distribution, joint promotions, trade show events, sales training and the development of joint computer-based demonstrations. SkyTel and Ex Machina will also work with third-party software publishers and hardware manufacturers to encourage the development of wireless-compatible applications.
Notify! is available directly to end users through major computer software distributors including Ingram/Micro and Merisel/MacAmerica, mail order catalogs including MacWarehouse, and directly from Ex Machina. Motorola, Inc.'s Paging and Telepoint Systems Group, of Boynton Beach, Fla., which jointly announced Notify! with Ex Machina, will market Notify! to the paging channel.
