SKM launches chiller line with R-1234ze refrigerant.

UAE-based HVAC manufacturer, SKM Air Conditioning LLC, has launched the first chiller line in the Middle East to be equipped with Honeywell's Solstice ze (R-1234ze) refrigerant.

According to the company, the product will be part of its showcase at this year's the Big 5 Dubai, which is set to take place from 26 to 29 November at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The new chillers will be available for industrial installation throughout the Middle East, said SKM.

Nabil Abouseido, marketing and business development director at SKM, commented: "[The] adoption of Solstice ze in our new chiller line helps us [to not only] improve energy efficiency but also meet environmental targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"We are excited to be the first HVAC manufacturer to offer chillers equipped with Solstice ze in the Middle East. Adoption of this technology helps support regional goals to become greener and more energy-efficient."

Citing a 2015 report from PwC, SKM pointed out that energy usage in the UAE has grown at an annual average of 4% over the past six years, with projections that it will increase to 5% by 2020.

The company further noted that cuts to energy subsidies have made energy efficiency one of the top priorities for the region, adding that the adoption of the Honeywell refrigerant could reduce energy consumption as it is based on hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) technology.

Amir Naqvi, regional marketing leader of Honeywell Fluorine Products, Middle East, Turkey, and Africa, said: "Honeywell remains committed to supplying next-generation, environmentally preferable HFO alternatives to support the regional Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) industries on accelerating the transition from hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and other high-GWP materials.

"SKM is one of the earliest adopters of our ultra-low GWP refrigerant in the region, and we are looking forward to supporting more manufacturers who are working to achieve energy efficiency goals and sustainability efforts."
