SK TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES ALLIANCE WITH NCR AND ATV VARSERV
 TO OFFER NEW POINT-OF-SALE SYSTEM
BOCA RATON, Fla., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Randy S. Selman, chairman of SK Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: SKTC) today announced that the company, NCR Corporation, and ATV VarServ, Inc. have created a turnkey retail point-of-sale (POS) solution utilizing an innovative package concept which will be aggressively priced to enable the product to compete against high-end electronic cash registers, as well as personal computers with cash drawers.
The turnkey system, to be packaged and distributed by ATV VarServ, will consist of a modified NCR 7054 terminal with a retail style keyboard and ATV StoreKare retail POS software (a private-label version of SK's StoreKare POS software), all as a complete unit. The primary target market for the system is the small to medium-sized merchant environment.
The system will be showcased at the SDA Show, held in Chicago from April 30 to May 3, at the NCR booth. General availability of the system is expected beginning in the fall of 1992. The modified NCR 7054 terminal will be supported by NCR's dealer network, as well as NCR's national service organization, and the StoreKare softKare software will be supported by ATV VarServ and SK Technologies.
Commenting on the announcement, Selman stated, "As a result of the availability of this system, small businesses can now afford to take advantage of the quality hardware and support offered by NCR, combined with the feature-rich StoreKare software which makes it suitable for a wide range of retail environments. Additionally, this system represents another step toward our goal of having our software ultimately become the industry standard for POS software."
Also commenting, Dan Bogan, assistant vice president retail CMD of NCR, stated "We chose to work with SK Technologies due primarily to the approach they have taken with their StoreKare software and expertise in supporting the reseller channel. In essence, they have developed a product that can be used directly off-the-shelf by a wide range of retailers, is relatively simple to operate, yet offers a variety of function. We feel that the combination of NCR's new 7054 terminal, StoreKare software and ATV's value-added integration capabilities, along with the aggressive pricing strategy, will create a revolution in automated point-of-sale solutions for small to medium- sized merchants."
Originally founded in 1980, ATV's primary business is the wholesale distribution of NCR personal computer (PC) systems throughout the United States and Canada. Presently, ATV delivers more NCR PC systems to NCR Resellers than any other distributor in the world. ATV also distributes NCR Retail and Data Collection products. INC magazine recently ranked ATV 135th among the country's top 500 fastest growing, privately held companies.
StoreKare software also currently operates with NCR's 7052 point- of-sale hardware system, as well as NCR personal computer systems.
NCR, the networked computer resource of AT&T, develops, manufactures, markets, supports, and services enterprise-wide information systems for worldwide markets.
SK Technologies Corporation is a leading developer and marketer of point-of-sale and data communications software specifically designed for use by retail and food operations, including fast food restaurants, retail discount and other general and specialty stores. SK markets the StoreKare system through an extensive network of over 300 dealers located in the United States and Canada.
