SIX NEW DRUGSTORES SLATED FOR PERRY IN DETROIT METRO AREA BEFORE DEC. 31; FIVE ADDITIONAL UNITS PLANNED FOR '94

 PONTIAC, Mich., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Perry Drug Stores, Inc. (NYSE: PDS) will open six new drugstores in the Detroit metropolitan area before the end of the 1993 calendar year.
 Specifically:
 -- Two new stores are opening at Jefferson-Coplin and Vernor-Dragoon in Detroit -- the 16th and 17th Perry stores in the city. Perry is the largest chain store operator in the city.
 -- A Perry drugstore will open in Sterling Heights, the third in that city.
 -- Perry will open a new store in Highland Park as part of a new shopping center development. It is Highland Park's first new drugstore in many years, according to city officials.
 -- A new store will be opened in St. Clair Shores at 10 Mile and Harper.
 -- Another Perry drugstore will open at Nine Mile and Ryan in Warren.
 In addition, in 1994, Perry will open a new store in the former Berkley Show, which is being renovated in that Oakland County suburb, and leases have been signed for two more stores in Detroit at Seven Mile-Hubbard and Cadieux-Harper, in Traverse City, and in Walled Lake.
 Andy Giancamilli, executive vice president and chief operating officer, said: "These are exciting and excellent convenient neighborhood drugstore locations. We expect to serve the customers in these communities with the same kind of outstanding customer care that we have provided customers throughout our 37-year history."
 With these 11 new stores, Perry, a New York Stock Exchange company, will operate 223 drugstores in the state. Perry is Michigan's largest drugstore chain and it is the 14th-largest drugstore chain in the U.S.
