SIU ENDORSES CLINTON ECONOMIC PLAN

CAMP SPRINGS, Md., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seafarers International Union of North America, AFL-CIO (SIU), today voiced its strong support for President Bill Clinton's new economic plan.
In a letter to the White House, SIU President Michael Sacco praised the plan, presented last night to a joint session of Congress, as "just the right medicine" to spur the recovery of the nation's ailing economy. He said that the comprehensive program "will jump-start our lagging service and manufacturing sectors, while laying the groundwork for sustained, long-term growth.
"While no sacrifice is painless," Sacco added, "I believe your proposals taken as a whole represent a courageous move toward putting our citizens back to work and putting our economy back on track."
Sacco pledged the assistance of the SIU in procuring the enactment of those initiatives that will benefit American workers.
The SIU represents thousands of workers employed in the maritime and industrial sectors of the economy.
