 SISCOM ANNOUNCES NEWSPRO(TM) SALES
TO TRAVEL CHANNEL AND NEW ENGLAND CABLE NEWS
BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Satellite Information Systems Co. (SISCOM), developer of NewsPro(TM) broadcast newsroom automation systems, today announced two contracts to provide both the Travel Channel of Mount Kisco, N.Y. and New England Cable News of Newton, Mass. with a NewsPro newsroom automation system. Value of the contracts was not disclosed.
The Travel Channel, a subsidiary of TWA, provides cable operators with popular travel oriented programming, and is seen on 735 cable systems nationwide. The Travel Channel system, which will initially support 30 users, includes a Digital Equipment Corp. CPU, script and utility printers, editorial and production control and an extensive Video Archive capability including direct control of VTRs for tape logging purposes.
"Following an extensive 18-month search, we found NewsPro to be the most comprehensive software available which was capable of meeting our specific needs," said Charlene Serwa, executive producer for the Travel Channel. "We are currently upgrading our production facilities in order to support the network's continued expansion and stand by our commitment to provide exclusive travel programming."
Bob Turner, SISCOM's director of marketing, said, "The selection of SISCOM by the Travel Channel validates SISCOM's approach to the increasingly significant archive requirements of both news and other media related organizations. An organization's video archive often represents one of their largest assets, and without an effective retrieval mechanism, usually is an underutilized one."
New England Cable News, a partnership of The Hearst Corp. and Continental Cable Vision, is a new 24 hour regional cable news network which will provide news and information services to the greater New England area. Broadcasting is scheduled to begin in spring of 1992. This system, which will initially support 36 users, consists of twin Digital Equipment Corp. CPUs, script and utility printers, editorial and production control and SISCOM's extensive archive capabilities.
"NewsPro has state of the art technology which is well-suited for use on the established DEC platform," said Charles Kravetz, general manager for New England Cable News. "It combines machine automation that a lean operation like ours must have with the unsurpassed ability to search and retrieve text information that a first class journalistic enterprise should insist upon from its newsroom computer system."
"Regional cable news operations represent a growing high profile segment of the news industry, and SISCOM is pleased with the selection of NewsPro by New England Cable News," said Bob Turner. "Many key executives at New England Cable News came from WCVB in Boston, an existing NewsPro installation, and having the opportunity to choose again, they chose SISCOM."
NewsPro automates the editorial and production control aspects of broadcast news operations and provides information management facilities for use by organizations in the print media, public affairs, press relations and image industries.
