 SIR BRYAN NICHOLSON NAMED NON-EXECUTIVE
 CHAIRMAN OF VARITY HOLDINGS LIMITED
 BUFFALO, N.Y., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Sir Bryan H. Nicholson has been named non-executive chairman of Varity Holdings Limited, London, effective January 1, 1993, it was announced here today. Later this year he will be nominated to become a member of the board of directors of Varity Corporation (NYSE: VAT), parent of Varity Holdings Limited, also as of January 1, according to Victor A. Rice, chairman and chief executive officer of Varity Corporation.
 Sir Bryan currently is serving as chairman and chief executive of the British Post Office, a position he has held for five years and will relinquish at year-end. He began his business career with Unilever, and then served as managing director in Australia for the Remington Division of Sperry Rand, and later as managing director of Remington UK and France activities.
 He joined Rank Xerox (UK) as director of operations in 1972 and became chairman of their German and UK operations, as well as being responsible for French and Italian activities, in 1979, a position he held until 1984. He was a member of the Rank Xerox board of directors from 1976 to 1984. He then held the post of chairman of the Manpower Services Commission in the United Kingdom for three years before being named to his current position.
 "Sir Bryan will bring a wealth of experience and insight to the board of Varity," said Mr. Rice. "Additionally, he will be a valuable resource to the management of Varity's European subsidiaries, Massey Ferguson and Perkins, who
undoubtedly will call upon his counsel and advice." Varity Holdings Limited is the parent company of Massey Ferguson and Perkins operations outside of North America.
 Varity Corporation had sales in 1991 of $3.2 billion and is one of the 150 largest U.S. industrial firms. Varity operations include Massey Ferguson farm and industrial machinery, Perkins diesel engines and Kelsey-Hayes automotive components.
