SINGLE OF THE WEEK; singles and albums Pet Shop Boys Yes ****.

Byline: rick fulton

NEIL TENNANT and Chris Lowe were worthy winners of the award for outstanding contribution to music at this year's Brits. Helping the duo feel even more current on Yes are Xenomania, who have written for Girls Aloud and Sugababes. The album opens with current single Love Etc. which questions the X Factor generation: "Don't have to be beautiful but it helps." Highlights include All Over The World sampling Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker to a squelchy rave bass, the retro Sixties pop of Beautiful People and the pumping beat of Pandemonium with opening lines: "Is this a riot or are you just pleased to see me?" Yes is a bit of both.
