SIMPLIFY TAX PREPARATION CONVENIENTLY AT HOME DAY OR NIGHT
 WITH SOFTEL'S TAX HOTLINE
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Softel has introduced the industry's only fully automated voice response tax information service, "The Softel Tax Hotline."
Readily accessible with the use of a touchtone phone, customers dialing 1-900-776-7500 will quickly and economically receive personalized answers to a myriad of tax questions: IRAs, tax credits, new items for 1991, and real estate transactions to name a few.
The product was developed after an extensive research effort by the Softel founders and accounting professors from the University of Chicago and University of Illinois.
The Softel Hotline will answer questions for individuals as they prepare their personal tax returns any time day or night. For individuals who have their own personal accountants, the hotline offers a second opinion confirming their accountants' analyses.
"Softel's service is designed to save our clients time and money by providing what we consider to be the most convenient, reliable and easy- to-use tax information service available today," said Softel President Steven Wallace.
For a cost of $.75 for the first minute and $1.50 for each additional minute, callers will receive up-to-date, accurate tax information immediately, drawing upon the hotline's knowledge base.
The service acts like a personal tax accountant, asking questions such as "Did you hire someone to care for your dependent?" or "Were you married for the entire tax year?" Softel's "expert system" will then analyze the caller's input and keep prompting him or her with questions until a complete answer is provided.
In addition, because the service is fully automated, confidentiality is maintained, an important benefit for many taxpayers.
The Hotline System has three modules, each a technological leader in its field: voice, database and artificial intelligence. "As far as we know, this is the first and only commercial application that integrates the three technologies," said L. Balogh, Softel's vice president of research and development.
Softel, Inc. is a Northbrook-based corporation with a majority interest owned by Steven Wallace. In addition, Softel is affiliated with the Preferred Accountant Referral & Information Service, a CPA referral program.

PREFERRED ACCOUNTANT AND REFERRAL INFORMATION SERVICE
In conjunction with the Softel Tax Hotline, the company has also introduced the Preferred Accountant & Referral Information Service (PARIS), a CPA referral service that callers can access when using the Softel Tax Hotline.
Callers who have more complex tax situations can call the PARIS service to obtain the name of a CPA in their area, using a toll-free 800 number.
"Combining the two services, we feel we can serve the entire market: those with relatively simple tax questions and those with more sophisticated needs," said Wallace.
A message for the PARIS service is stated at the completion of every call to the hotline. Taxpayers can call 1-800-225-4272 to access the referral system.
