SIMMONS OUTDOOR CORPORATION ELECTS FIVE TO EXPANDED BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Simmons Outdoor Corporation (NASDAQ: SIMM) today announced the election of five new directors to the board of directors, bringing the board to nine members.
 The announcement was made by Frederick L. Cosper II, chairman, president and chief executive officer of the company. Simmons became a public company in late August with the completion of an initial public offering in which it raised approximately $6 million.
 The new directors, three of whom are associated with the Noel Group, Inc., the majority shareholder of Simmons, are:
 -- Herbert M. Friedman, Esq., partner in the New York law firm of Zimet, Haines & Friedman and legal counsel to Simmons. Mr. Friedman, 61, is a director of The Forschner Group, Inc., Noel Group, Inc., and The Prospect Group, Inc.
 -- Randolph Guggenheimer, 57, a managing director-corporate finance of Advest, Inc., the underwriter of the Simmons public offering.
 -- Gilbert H. Lamphere, 41, co-chairman and chief executive officer of Noel and chairman and chief executive officer of Prospect, who also serves in the following capacities: chairman of the board of directors of Illinois Central Corp., Recognition International Inc. and Belding Heminway Co., Inc., and a director of Sylvan Foods Holdings, Inc., Global Natural Resources Inc., Children's Discovery Centers of America, Inc., Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc., and R.P. Scherer Inc.
 -- James G. Niven, 47, chairman of Global Natural Resources, Inc., and a general partner of Pioneer Associates Company, a venture capital company. He is also a director of Lynton Group, Inc., Noel and Prospect and a subsidiary of Noel, Lincoln Foods Inc.
 -- Michael M. Weatherly, 61, director of Trade Relations of The Forschner Group, Inc., since 1987 and formerly chief executive officer of Forschner (1974-87).
 The new directors join Mr. Cosper, William L. Bennett, co-chairman and chief executive officer of Noel, Karen Brenner, a managing director of Noel, and Nicholas A. Buoniconti, an attorney associated with the firm of Adorno & Zeder, on the board.
 Simmons is a specialty marketer of branded sporting goods. The company markets and distributes optical products (including rifle scopes, spotting scopes, binoculars and telescopes) and M.L. Lynch Co. hunting accessory


products to mass merchandisers, distributors and catalogers. The company also markets Victorinox Original Swiss Army Knives purchased from The Forschner Group to select sporting goods distributors.
