SILICON GRAPHICS UNVEILS SERVICE AUTHORIZATION PROGRAM
 FOR VALUE ADDED DEALERS
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI) today announced a new service authorization program for Value Added Dealers (VADs) called the IRIS Support Partner (ISP) Program. The ISP Program provides Silicon Graphics' VADs with additional revenue opportunities for supporting Silicon Graphics' IRIS Indigo(TM) RISC PC family of products.
Under the ISP Program, VADs receive factory authorization from Silicon Graphics to provide hardware and software support of IRIS Indigo products. Factory authorization is provided upon completion of all necessary maintenance training and the purchase of ongoing technical support. The ISP Program provides all the maintenance training, documentation, technical support and parts programs necessary for VADs to effectively support their customers. A primary consideration of the program is the cost of investment for VADs and the importance of timely and effective back-up support from Silicon Graphics.
"The ISP Program further strengthens our position within the channel and empowers our Value Added Dealers with the resources required to fully satisfy their customers' needs with top notch sales, training, service and support," said Bert Fornaciari, vice president of Silicon Graphics' Customer Support Division.
The ISP Program offers VADs a wide range of revenue opportunities and choices in supporting their customers. ISPs may become certified to sell and deliver the IRIS Indigo training course to their customers. This option provides ISPs with greater revenue opportunities and enhances their customers' capabilities in fault isolation and system administration functions. In addition, ISPs may elect to purchase and resell any of Silicon Graphics' maintenance contracts including Silicon Graphics' software update contracts.
Silicon Graphics also offers ISPs the option of participating in Silicon Graphics' Critical Parts Rental (CPR) Program. The CPR program rents replacement parts to VADs at affordable monthly rates. Parts are owned by Silicon Graphics but are carried in inventory at the VAD's location. The CPR program reduces inventory costs, improves cash flow and eliminates the common problem of outdated parts. As parts need newer revision levels, ISPs simply exchange older parts for parts at the new revision level at no additional charge. At the end of the rental period, ISPs return their parts to Silicon Graphics.
Silicon Graphics Inc. is the leading manufacturer of visual computing systems. The company delivers three-dimensional graphics, color, audio, video and real-time technologies to the technical, scientific and creative computing marketplace.
