 TOPIC:
Understanding computer graphics standards can be a difficult task. The industry is flooded with graphics acronyms such as PHIGS, PEX, PEXlib, OpenGL, XGL, HOOPS, and many others. While some of these technologies compete, others simply address different parts of the graphics programming challenge.
In these seminars, Silicon Graphics will offer a look at the various pieces of the graphics programming puzzle, exploring if and how they fit together and the benefits they offer for software developers, hardware vendors and, ultimately, end users. The seminars will include a history of 3D graphics standards; a technical overview of OpenGL, the technology based on Silicon Graphics' IRIS Graphics Library; a comparison of graphics programming technologies; and an update on the OpenGL licensing program.
PRESENTERS: -- Kurt Akeley, Silicon Graphics' co-founder, vice
president and chief engineer of IRIS GL, and
 OpenGL.
-- Paul Koontz, director of marketing for Silicon
 Graphics' Advanced Systems Division.
-- Bill Glazier, manager of the OpenGL licensing
 program.
