 SILICON GRAPHICS NAMES FOUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS
 MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc.


(NYSE: SGI) today announced that four new members have been elected to its board of directors. The board unanimously elected Allen F. Jacobson, Robert C. Miller, James G. Treybig and Robert T. Wall, expanding its membership to 11. Miller, Treybig and Wall previously were members of the board of MIPS Computer Systems Inc., which merged with Silicon Graphics in June 1992.
 "With the addition of these four distinguished board members, we are continuing to bring experts together to share ideas and combine talents that will help us create the premier computer systems company in the industry," said Edward R. McCracken, president and CEO of Silicon Graphics. "We look forward to benefiting from their counsel and participation in this rapidly changing and growing marketplace."
 Allen F. Jacobson, 65, is the former chairman of the board and CEO of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co. (3M). Joining 3M in 1947, he was promoted through a variety of management positions, becoming the vice president of European operations in 1975, and the president of U.S. operations in 1984. In 1986, he was named chairman of the board and CEO, retiring in October of 1991 and remains on the board. Jacobson serves as a director for a variety of organizations including Mobil Corp., Prudential Insurance Co. and Sara Lee Corp. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University.
 Robert C. Miller, 48, is president of MIPS Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Silicon Graphics Inc. Prior to joining Silicon Graphics, Miller was chairman, president and CEO of MIPS Computer Systems Inc. Miller joined MIPS in 1987 from Data General Corp. where he was senior vice president of the Information Systems Group. Prior to 1981, Miller spent 15 years with IBM in a series of engineering and management positions. He has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Bucknell University and a master's of science degree in thermodynamics from Stanford University.
 James G. Treybig, 51, is president and CEO of Tandem Computers Inc. He was Tandem's principal founder and has served as its president since its incorporation in 1974. He is also a director of the company. Prior to joining Tandem, Treybig worked for the San Francisco venture capital firm of Kleiner & Perkins. Between 1967 and 1973, he held various marketing management posts at Hewlett-Packard Co. Treybig has a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree from Rice University and a master of business administration from Stanford University.
 Robert T. Wall, 47, is the president of On Point Developments Inc., a venture management and investment banking firm. He is former founding president and CEO of MIPS Computer Systems Inc. and also is former chairman and CEO of Presentation Technologies Inc. Wall also was responsible for Investment and Merchant Banking at Cowen & Co. and earlier, he was in charge of Corporate Finance at Hambrecht & Quist Inc. Wall received his bachelor of arts from DePauw University and a master of business administration from Harvard Business School.
